Connecting with each other while connecting fabric

Quilting is a functional art form that has historically been a way for women to come together, share stories, learn information, create community, and offer support. Connecting with each other while connecting fabric. The result is more than a blanket. It’s a documentation of how creative, resilient and resourceful we are.

Carole’s Connection to Quilts

In my own personal collection of quilts is a flour sack quilt made by my grandmother and her sisters in the 1940s. Tiny tattered squares that formerly held food, stitched together by hand, with care, was made out of necessity and now lives as a priceless family heirloom that will be passed down for generations. New pieces added by my mother and now me, to strengthen the quilt, and its history. Our lives stitched together over and over again as our family continues to grow. My son will never meet his great-grandmother, but he will learn about her spirit and feel her love through that quilt

That’s what I want to do with this project: bring people together through a shared experience and give them the space and platform to tell their story. To open the door to start having those conversations with family and friends and be a part of something much bigger than ourselves. To tell the world that our stories are important, and to connect not only emotionally but also physically through the very quilt we create.

I know not everyone will be able to see the finished product, but they’ll feel its warmth through their deep connections to others.
